Shawwāl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shawwāl ( Arabic شوّال, DMG Šawwāl ) is the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar .

meaning

In the first days of the Shawwal, the festival of breaking the fast ʿĪdu l-Fitr takes place. Particularly pious Muslims fast for a few more days after the festive season; this is considered particularly meritorious; on the eighth day of the shawwal in Iran, these fasting days are followed by the “six-day festival” shasha , which has been attested since the Middle Ages. There are no other general festivals in the Shawwal, only local holy festivals.
