Apparently it was at the beginning of the new variety boom that broke out in the Federal Republic of Germany since the late 1980s . In 1990 Der Spiegel described it as a “Laboratory of New Artistry” and “Avantgarde Variete”. Even today, a large part of the program consists of open-stage events. The stage measures 4 × 3 meters, the program is determined by a moderator who changes every week.

Appearances

Established artists rehearse new programs in the Scheinbar or test certain numbers. Regular guests include a. Michael Genähr . For the most part, however, the performances serve as a stage for up-and-coming young artists. Mario Barth , Kurt Krömer , Meret Becker and Eckart von Hirschhausen began their careers on the four-meter-wide stage . While Krömers first appearances caused a rather modest response and, according to reports, von Hirschhausen was particularly noticeable with his red nose, Murat Topal reports that his very first stage appearance in front of an audience triggered rather positive reactions. For Oliver Polak , the vaudeville on Monumentenstrasse was at times a second living room, where he performed over 200 performances. The basic idea of promoting new and self-made things also corresponded to the fact that Scheinbar was one of the pioneers of the Berlin poetry slam scene. Sebastian Krämer is one of the regular guests here . "Without the seeming, I would definitely not have become an artist by profession," says Bodo Wartke .
