The Layer Mountains are a prominent mountain with several peaks in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica . It rises 6.5 km west-southwest of the Ritscher summit in the Otto von Gruber mountains of the Wohlthat massif .
It was discovered, identified as a mountain range and named accordingly during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . The name is derived from the banding of the mountain through different rock layers.
