Elbe sailors

The Elbe sailor is a simple, low sailor's hat made of black or dark blue navy cloth. It has a rim about three centimeters high and is fitted with a leather storm strap on the front of the hat bridge. Nowadays, plastic is often used instead of patent leather.

Old townspeople

A slightly higher variant of the Elbe sailor is the old town . Instead of a strap, it has a cord over the visor.

Fleetenkieker

The Fleetenkieker is similar to the Elbe sailor, but somewhat larger and softer. This form of the skipper's hat is named after the Hamburg Fleetenkiekern .

Elbe pilot hat

The Elbe pilot hat or the Elbe pilot , also Helgoland pilot hat , is made especially for the Hamburg pilot . The hat has a high bridge and a small cap, the peak is covered with oak leaves. The cap cord can be twisted or braided. The Elbe pilot hat is similar to the Prinz Heinrich hat .

The Elblotsen cap became popular as the " Schmidt cap", the "trademark" of the Federal Minister and later Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt .
