The Iridescent thyme ( Thymus caespititius ) is a plant from the genus of thyme ( Thymus ) in the family of Labiatae .
description
The iridescent thyme is a lawn-forming plant with woody, creeping shoots that have upright flower-bearing stems with a height of 2 to 7 cm, as well as axillary clusters of small leaves . The leaves are about 8 mm long and 1.7 mm wide, narrow spatulate and hairless, at the base they are ciliate.
The inflorescence is loosely built and consists of two-flowered false whorls . The bracts resemble the foliage leaves. The calyx is 3 to 4 mm long, the upper teeth are barely pronounced and not ciliate, the lower teeth are flat and as long as they are wide. The crown reaches a length of 6 to 14 mm, is purple-pink or whitish.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.

Occurrence
The species is distributed in Portugal , northwest and western Spain, as well as the Azores and Madeira .
