Schirnding's collection

The Baron of Schirnding'sche collection is a manuscript -Sammlung genealogically interesting material from Upper Silesia , which until World War II in the manuscript department of the Breslauer was archived public library. Today it is in the holdings of the Silesian-Lusatian Cabinet of the Wroclaw University Library .

The District Court Councilor and member of the Prussian House of Representatives Friedrich Freiherr Schirndinger von Schirnding (1812–1881) collected excerpts from land registers of the manors (especially from the districts of Groß Strehlitz and Ratibor ) and from church registers out of genealogical interest . He compiled further source material from memorials and tombs. The Upper Silesian homeland researcher Augustin Bogislaus Weltzel (1817–1897), pastor in Tworkau near Kreuzenort (Ratibor district), later sifted through Schirnding's estate and arranged it in the collection that has survived today.
