history

The place was created no later than the 13th century. In 1285 he was first mentioned in a document from the Archbishop of Gniezno Jakob as "Crisanouiz".

On a map of the Duchy of Teschen from 1736 by Johann-Wolfgang Wieland, the place was entered as Krzizanowitz . The place was mentioned in 1784 in the book Beytrage for the description of Silesia as Krzizanowi (t) z , belonged to a Prince von Lichnowsky and was located in the Principality of Ratibor. At that time it had 296 inhabitants, two stately farms , a Catholic church and school, 17 farmers and 52 gardeners . There were many craftsmen among the inhabitants. In 1865 Krzizanowitz consisted of a dominion and a community. The estate included the Lichtenberg Vorwerk, a newly founded Vorwerk in 1863, the Matzkowetz forester's house and a brickworks. At that time, the place had 16 farms, one half farmer, 44 gardeners and 37 cottages, as well as a windmill and a two-class school with 196 students. On April 8, 1874 the place name was changed to Kreuzenort .

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 557 local voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 350 for membership in Poland. On the estate, 49 voted for Germany and 45 for Poland. Kreuzort remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . In 1932 an urn field from the Bronze Age was discovered during construction work. As a result, several archaeological excavations took place in the following years. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .

In 1945 the formerly German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed Krzyżanowice in Poland . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. Since 1973 the place has been the seat of the municipality. In 1975 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.
