Zabełków (German Zabelkau ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Administratively it is located in the municipality of Krzyżanowice (Kreuzort) in the powiat Raciborski (district of Ratibor) in the Silesian Voivodeship .

geography

Zabełków is located nine kilometers southeast of the township of Krzyżanowice (Kreuzort), 19 kilometers southeast of the district town Racibórz (Ratibor) and 60 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Katowice .

The place is in close proximity to the border with the Czech Republic and the Oder . In addition, the Olsa flows into the Oder near the village .

history

The place was created in the 14th century at the latest. On January 6, 1373, Duke Johann zu Troppau and Ratibor awarded the knight Pasco de Borutswerde a new letter about his privileges, as the privileges granted by Duke Lesko von Ratibor had been burned. In it u. a. the possession of Zabelkau confirmed. The place was mentioned in documents as Sabulkow and Neuschurgerdorf .

The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Beytrage to describe Silesia as Zabelkau and was in the Prussian part of the Oderberg lordship in the Pless district. At that time it had 275 inhabitants, a mill, 24 farmers, nine gardeners and 21 cottagers. In 1850 the scrap wood church was moved from Slawikau to Zabelkau. In 1865 Zabelkau consisted of a manor and a community. The Neuhof Vorwerk belonged to the manor. At that time, the place had 14 farms, nine half-farmers, two quarter-farmers and 65 cottages, as well as a water mill, a school and a church.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 368 local voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 388 for membership in Poland. Zabelkau remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . In 1936 the place was renamed Schurgersdorf as part of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Ratibor .

In 1945 the previously German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Zabełków . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. In 1975 the place came to the Katowice Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Raciborski and the Silesian Voivodeship.
