Hose connector

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A hose connector is a short piece of pipe that is used to connect hoses . It is inserted into the ends of the tubes. The hose ends are usually fixed with hose ties. Hose connectors are used to extend, branch off or repair a hose line . Depending on the transition implemented, the connecting pieces at the beginning and end of a hose line are also referred to as hose connectors. The hose connector ensures a tight connection.

In contrast to hose couplings , a connection using a hose connector cannot move and cannot be easily released. It is therefore used at the points of a hose line where a permanent and fixed connection is required.

Hose connectors often have ribbed or corrugated ends to keep the hose from slipping. The hose end is clamped onto the connector with a hose clip (also called hose clamp or hose clamp). It is advantageous if the hose material is somewhat flexible, like a rubber hose, and thus yields to the pressure of the hose clip. This results in an automatic seal. Clamps are not required for hoses with a small diameter and low working pressure, e.g. B. in irrigation systems , chemical laboratories and in the field of aquaristics . These hose connectors usually have one or more thickenings (sometimes also sawtooth-shaped, see illustration of hose ties made of plastic ) to ensure that the hose is held firmly even without a hose tie. Connectors consist of two conical parts that can be plugged together.

Designs

  • I-shape: straight, 2 ends
  • L-shape: right angle, 2 ends
  • V-shape: acute angle, 2 ends
  • Y-shape: in the middle, 1 sloping branch, 3 ends
  • T-shape: in the middle, 1 branch at a right angle, 3 ends
  • Cross shape: 4 ends
  • Three-legged, 3 connections at an angle of 120 °
  • Connectors that have a screw coupling or a molded part on one side are sometimes referred to as hose connectors.

material

Hose connectors can be made of plastics, various metals (stainless steel, brass, nickel-plated brass), and also of glass (e.g. when dealing with acids).

Applications

Hose connectors are used in laboratories , in pneumatics and hydraulics , in irrigation and, for example, also in the fuel supply in motor vehicles .
