Schleifmühlkapelle
The Schleifmühlkapelle , often also simply called Kapella , is a chapel shrine in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Unterammergau . It counts as a field monument in the community and is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.
location
The chapel shrine stands under trees on the west side of Pürschlingstraße, a forest road that leads from Unterammergau up to the August-Schuster-Haus am Pürschling . The Schleifmühlkapelle is a station on the Unterammergau Chapel and Marterl paths . Behind the chapel flowing grinding mill Laine from the after their exit Schleifmühlklamm over. To the north of the chapel is the large parking lot for hikers, which serves as a starting point for hikes on the Prürschling. In front of the chapel there is a wooden bench on a stone slab area. Next to the Schleifmühlkapelle there are some Marterl , that is, memorial stones and wayside shrines for workers who perished in woodwork or in the quarry.
history
The chapel shrine was built around 1700 by the Unterammergau whetstone makers at the point from where they moved into the quarries. In 1995 the chapel was restored.
description
The Schleifmühlkapelle is a small gable roof building. There is a barred window on the east side facing the street. Behind it is a replica of the figure of the scourged Savior from the Wieskirche in a small, baroque altarpiece .
