Schlern group (lithostratigraphy)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sciliar , which gives the group its name, consists mainly of pre-volcanic Dolomites of the Rosengarten Formation on the steep slopes on the west side and of the post-volcanic Dolomites of the Rosszähne Formation on the east side towards the Alpe di Siusi .

The Schlern group ( Italian Gruppo dello Sciliar ) is a lithostratigraphic group in the Southern Alps .

The group consists of Triassic carbonate platforms from the upper anisium to the lower carnian . The carbonates occur in platform facies or as slope facies on the slopes of the carbonate platforms. Typically for the slopes are usually 30 to 35 degrees sloping strata, so-called clinoforms towards the basin areas, where they are mostly interlocked with the basin sediments such as the Wengen Formation or the St. Cassian Formation .

In the area of the western Dolomites the group is underlain by the Anise Contrin Formation and overlaid by the Raibl group . The group is divided into the pre-volcanic rose garden formation and a post-volcanic subgroup. The post-volcanic subgroup is divided into the Rosszähne Formation , the Cassian dolomite and the Selladolomite subgroup .
