The Schlesisches Pastoralblatt was a Catholic journal. It appeared bi-monthly or monthly from 1880 to 1929 in the publishing house of the GP Aderholz 'bookstore in Breslau .

content

The contemporary church historian Albert Ehrhard classified the Schlesisches Pastoralblatt in his division of the periodical organs on Catholic theology into the systematic-practical group, sub-area pastoral theology . In addition to problems of practical theology , the magazine also published articles on the history of the diocese of Wroclaw and Christian art , for example . The Schlesisches Pastoralblatt also published the ordinances of the Prince-Bishop's General Vicariat Office as well as reports on deceased clergymen, employments and promotions in the diocese of Wroclaw.

The magazine contained advertisements and was sold at prices like three marks per year.

history

The Schlesisches Pastoralblatt was founded by August Meer (1841–1895) and published from 1880 onwards. After his ordination, Meer was first chaplain in Zobten and Breslau and, from 1866, prefect at the Prince Bishop's College of Boys in Breslau. In addition to his pastoral and educational work, he worked as a historian. Before the appearance of the Schlesisches Pastoralblatt there was already a similar publication, the Schlesische Kirchenblatt founded by Josef Sauer and Matthias Thiel (1835 to 1885). Meer had foreseen that this magazine, whose target group were all Catholics, would not be able to survive on the market after the competing daily newspaper Schlesische Volkszeitung was established . In this situation, the Schlesisches Pastoralblatt turned back to a specialist journal for the clergy.

After Meer's death, the theologian Carl Seltmann took over the editing in 1895. He was cathedral capitular in Breslau, as were the subsequent editors and publishers of the paper, Anton Bergel (1855–1923) and Rudolph Buchwald . The theologian Franz Schubert was the last editor of the paper from 1922 to 1929 .

The successor magazine Ostdeutsches Pastoralblatt , in which the pastoral paper for the Diocese of Warmia was included, was published until 1943.
