Blumenau Castle is a 19th century castle in the Wunstorf district of Blumenau in Lower Saxony ; it is considered the landmark of the district.

description

The castle, built in 1865, is a two-story, angular brick building with a central octagonal entrance tower crowned by battlements . The style of the building is reminiscent of the British castle style , but combines local with British building traditions. The castle has brick architecture, light sandstone structure and Gothic elements.

The builder of Schloss Blumenau is the former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Hanover Eduard von Kielmansegg . The building served him as a retirement home. The castle was repaired in 1985 and 1986. Today it is privately owned and has been converted into condominiums.

Precursor plant

In Blumenau there was a moated castle in the Middle Ages , the exact location of which is not known. It was the New House , first mentioned in 1320 , which the Counts of Wunstorf built after abandoning a previous castle in Wunstorf.

In 1446 the Count von Wunstorf sold his possessions to Bishop Magnus von Hildesheim . Shortly afterwards the property fell to the Guelphs . They made the castle the seat of the Blumenau office , which was moved to Wunstorf in 1852.
