Borganie Castle

Borganie Castle ( Polish Ruiny pałacu w Borzygniewie ) is the ruin of a castle in Borzygniew (German Borganie ) in the rural municipality of Mietków in the powiat Wrocławski ( Wroclaw district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

history

The palace, built in the late renaissance style, consists of two houses attached to one another on the long sides. It is characteristic that these are not only closed off on the narrow sides by gables , but also towards the mountains. The structure is loosened up by volutes and small pillars. The portal on the southern long side is framed by pilasters and bears a cartouche on which the year of construction 1613 and the inscription “I build this house, not out of pride, but out of necessity” is noted. The client was Christoph von Mühlheim and Domanze on Borganie.

The property was later owned by the Zedlitz family . In 1872 the castle passed from the possession of Uslar and Gleichen to Albert Scheler. In 1937 the castle had to be sold to the state because a reservoir was to be built here. In April 1945 the building was set on fire. Witnesses reported that they could see from the Zobten that the castle gables had remained standing.
