Live and act

Markus Hottiger grew up with his three sisters in Oftringen and Sirnach. His parents owned a textile factory. From 1975 to 1979 he attended the teacher training college in Zofingen and then worked in school. After a year in Sisseln , he moved to Strengelbach , where he taught at the middle school for 12 years, including five years as a music school director.

In Zofingen he took over a Sunday school class. Since the children hardly understood the old High German song lyrics, he began to compose his first children's songs in dialect, which they sang along with enthusiasm. This is how he discovered his musical talent as a teenager. In 1979 he wrote his first Christmas musical “Uf em wäg nach Bethlehem” and then his first major musical “Paulus”, which he performed with the musician David Plüss . To this end, he founded the “Adonia Children's Choir”, and later the Adonia Youth Choir. In 1980 the concept of the two-week “musical camps” was developed, which from 2001 was also held in Germany. They contain a 10-day concert tour, as well as a studio recording in the second week - from 1995 in their own recording studio. There were also musicals such as “De Räuber Knatter-Ratter”, “Die Schildbürger”, “Robinson”, “Klass 6b” or “De Leu isch ab”, other Christmas musicals, the learning songs “Dictates learn with Fidimaa” and individual songs - meanwhile over 1,400, including the song “Supermegalässig”.

After leading this musical work part-time, he gave up the teaching profession and in 1992 founded the association "Adonia" based in Brittnau to sponsor the Adonia musical camps and the sports camps that were added in 2006. In 1996 the pianist Markus Heusser was engaged. There are now over 50 musical and sports camps and over 130 concerts per year. Over 1000 volunteers are involved in various projects in their free time. He headed the club until 2015.

In 1992 he founded "Adonia Verlag" in order to be able to publish his own productions. The publishing house established itself with Christmas and school musicals in schools as well as in the church sector. In addition to the camps for teenagers, from 1993 there were also camps for children and families, the “Adonia Junior Camps”. For the 20th anniversary he built the Adonia course and holiday center in Vordemwald in 1999 . In the same year he published learning songs for the lower level for multiplication tables "3 x 3 = Fidimaa". In 2003 the CD series “Motiviert zum Lobpriis” with a broad worship repertoire was created. In 2005 the first edition of the “ChinderHörspielBible”, produced every three months, followed, up to the complete 20-CD box. Adonia KidsParties have been taking place for children from 4 years of age since 2013.

Markus Hottiger married Vroni Ott in 1983. The couple have four sons.
