history
A castle has been documented here since the 12th century. It was strategically important for the trade routes of that time . It was surrounded by a wall and a moat. The castle was rebuilt several times. In 1589 the "New Kitchen" was built. From the medieval castle and the renaissance chateau , only the west wing has survived to this day. 1680–1707, Duke Christian von Sachsen-Eisenberg had the ensemble changed. The castle was redesigned into a baroque three-wing complex. 1679–1692 the castle church was added to the eastern edge . At the castle there are two separate parks with arched gardens, the laboratory and the kitchen garden with a pavilion. The Kaisersaal was restored in 1993/1994.
