Edsberg Castle (Swedish Edsberg Slott ) is a rococo- style castle built in 1760 in the Edsberg district of the city of Sollentuna .

location

Edsberg Castle is located north of Stockholm on the Edsviken branch of the Baltic Sea . The Edsviks Kunsthalle and Edsbacka Tavern are nearby . Both, like the castle, are surrounded by Edsberg Park , which stretches from Landsnoravägen to Sollentunavägen and Strandvägen . There is also a small café in the park.

history

The Edsberg estate was built around 1630 by Vogt Henrik Olofsson. Shortly after completion, it became the property of Count Gabriel Bengtsson Oxenstierna , a cousin of Axel Oxenstierna . Queen Christina stayed there for a visit in 1645 . In 1670 Gabriel Bengtsson's son, Gabriel Gabrielsson Oxenstierna , received a visit from Charles XI . and the Queen Mother Hedwig Eleonora .

In 1757, Governor Thure Gustav Rudbeck bought the property and in 1760 redesigned the old wooden house into a massive stone building in the style of a simplified French Rococo. One suspects the architect Carl Wijnblad. The castle remained in the family's possession for almost 200 years until it was taken over by the Sollentuna community in 1959.

The writer Malla Montgomery-Silfverstolpe grew up as a member of the Rudbeck family in Edsberg and described life at the castle in her diary.
