Gießmannsdorf Castle ( Polish: Zamek w Gościeszowie ) is a ruin in the rural community of Nowogrodziec ( Naumburg ) in the Powiat Bolesławiecki ( Bunzlau district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

The castle is located in the historic border forest between Lusatia and Silesia . A Piastic castle was first mentioned in 1318. Since 1381 the castle was owned by the noble family Warnsdorf .

The current shape of the castle dates from 1603, when Caspar von Warnsdorf had the castle converted into a moated castle in the Renaissance style. Under Friedrich III. Bibran made the castle baroque . Egon Gustav von Schönberg-Modlau rebuilt the palace in 1780, further conversions took place between 1848 and 1856, with the south wing receiving coupled windows and a neo-Gothic courtyard portal.

The last owners of the castle were the von Eggeling family. The castle was destroyed by the war in April 1945. As a result of the Second World War , the castle, along with most of Silesia, fell to Poland. The ruin was secured and privatized after the political change in 1989. The ruin has been looted and continues to deteriorate.

Building

The core of the complex is formed by an irregular, rounded, square enclosing wall, which was demolished to the south-west for the extension of the renaissance castle. The castle ruins are surrounded by a moat. A bridge leads to the former main portal. The ruins of the north tower and parts of the north facade have been preserved on the side. The two courtyard wings around the former courtyard are in ruins. In the surrounding landscape park there is a remarkable gentleman's house with a three-storey garden loggia.
