Groß Wilkau Castle

The Groß Wilkau Castle ( Polish: Zamek w Wilkowie Wielkim ) is a castle in the urban and rural municipality of Niemcza in the powiat Dzierżoniowski in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

A residential tower , which was surrounded by a moat, was probably built in the late 14th century under the von Reibnitz family . When it was sold to Nickel von Nimitz in 1478, the castle became the seat of his family. Under Christoph von Nimitz, the residential tower was integrated into the new building of a permanent house in the 17th century . The residential tower became part of one of the two courtyard-side projections , with the Gothic pointed arch portal remaining visible. Typical gables , sgraffito plaster , dwelling houses , window frames with fittings decoration completed the design of the building.

Among the owners of Hieronymus Scalvinoni and, from 1709, Franz Freiherr von Hoffmann Weighard the Castle Baroque style and the main facade with a Lisenengliederung redesigned. Later the castle and estate were owned by the von Tschirschky and the Count von Pfeil . In 1853 the von Koschembahr sold the castle to Karl Louis von Chappuis , who had the castle redesigned in a contemporary way.

After the upheavals in the region as a result of the Potsdam Agreement , the castle was used for offices and accommodation for an agricultural production cooperative. Today the castle is privately owned. Inside, some historical details have been preserved, such as Renaissance door frames, a stucco ceiling with mythological motifs and some baroque fireplace surrounds. To the north and west of the castle there is a neglected landscape park, to the east the buildings of the dominion have been preserved.
