Löfstad Castle

Löfstad Castle is located about nine kilometers southwest of the Swedish city of Norrköping in Östergötland near the European route 4 towards Linköping .

Löfstad has been known since the 15th century, but the current castle was built from 1637 on behalf of Field Marshal Axel Lillie . The castle consists of a three-story middle section and two elongated two-story wings with towers. The castle was modernized between 1670 and 1680, but it only got its final appearance after a serious fire in the middle of the 18th century. Around 1800 the lady of the castle Sophie Piper had an English park laid out.

The last owner, Emilie Piper, bequeathed the castle to the Swedish knight's house . Since her death in 1926, the castle and, above all, its furnishings have remained unchanged and can be viewed on guided tours. The castle was added to the list of Swedish cultural monuments in 1983 as Byggnadsminne .
