Langenau Castle

Langenau Castle ( Polish Pałac w Czernicy ) is a castle in Tschirne ( Czernica ) in the powiat Jeleniogórski ( Hirschberg district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

history

The castle probably goes back to a permanent house from the 14th century, which was built by the Knights of Langenow, whose ancestral seat it was. The following owners were those of Kittlitz and then of Seydlitz . At the beginning of the 16th century it came to Caspar I von Schaffgotsch , whose son had the building converted into a three-wing palace complex in the Renaissance style in 1543.

In May 1574, a disputation between the theologians Flacius Illyricus and Jacob Colerus took place at the castle .

After several changes of ownership, the castle was acquired by the von Förster family in 1787, who rebuilt the castle in the neo-renaissance style . In 1861 the Düren councilor Leopold Schoeller bought it for his daughter Adele, who was married to Dietrich von Klitzing- Schierokau. The inner courtyard was completed with the addition of a fourth wing.

At the end of the Second World War, the palace was confiscated by Reichsleiter Alfred Rosenberg's music team for looted art . The holdings included valuable musical instruments and original scores from the 18th century. With the German surrender on May 8, 1945, they fell into the hands of the Red Army . Large parts of the collection were destroyed or abducted. The lock remained intact.

After the transition to Poland in 1945, the property became part of a state- owned farm , while the castle became the seat of the Polish militia . It was repaired in the 1970s. After the political change , it came into private ownership in 1992.
