The MTV Africa Music Awards 2008 were presented on November 22, 2008 at the Velodrome , Abuja , Nigeria . It was the first of its kind. The moderator was Trevor Nelson .

The winner of the evening was the singer D'Banj , who received three MAMAs. For the best male artist, the Artist of the Year and the Listener's Choice Award.

Concerts

Before the award ceremony, four concerts with international artists and the nominated artists took place. A concert was held in Johannesburg on November 5th , Nairobi on November 8th, followed by a concert on November 13th in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and most recently in Lagos on November 15th.
