The MTV Africa Music Awards 2014 were presented on June 7, 2014 at the Durban International Convention Center (ICC Arena). The award was broadcast in Africa on MTV Base and MTV . Sponsors were KwaZulu-Natal , Absolut and the city of Durban . The moderator was the comedian and actor Marlon Wayans . Among others, Miguel , Trey Songz , Flavor N'abania , French Montana , Tiwa Savage , Davido , Mafikizolo , Uhuru , Oskido , Diamond Platnumz , Phyno , Yuri Da Cunha, Sauti Sol , Sarkodie , Ice Prince , The Arrows , Khuli Chana , Dr SID , Fally Ipupa , Michael Lowman , Don Jazzy , DJ Clock , Beatenberg , DJ Kent , Big Nuz , Toofan , D'Banj , DJ Vigi , DJ Tira , DJ Buckz and Burna Boy . On May 27, 2014, the nominees for the MTV Base Leadership Award were announced. On May 18th, Drake , Beyoncé , Rihanna , Pharrell Williams and Miley Cyrus were announced by MTV Base as nominees for the Best International Act. Davido and Mafikizolo were each nominated four times. Mi Casa and P-Square received three nominations. Diamond Platnumz and Wizkid have been nominated three times.

Marlon Wayans wore a beaded rickshaw and was cheered by the crowd. During the event he performed as an American journalist discriminating against African musicians during interviews. This form of satire was not applauded by everyone and many viewers found it ignorant. Mafikizolo won two MAMAs and performed the song Khona with Flavor N'abania , Sauti Sol and Fally Ipupa . Davido received the two awards for Artist of the Year and Best Male. Tiwa Savage won the Best Female Ward against Efya , Chidinma , Arielle T, and DJ C'ndo. Soul singer Simphiwe Dana remembered Nelson Mandela with the help of a timeline video from Rasty. The 2014 mass kidnapping of Nigerian schoolgirls was also addressed . Ladysmith Black Mambazotrat with Acappello and Y-tjukutja on. Lupita Nyong'o won the Personality of the Year award. Although she was not on site, she thanked them via video message. Guests were also Khloé Kardashian , D'Banj , Nomzamo Mbatha , Goldfish , DJ Fresh , John Vlismas , Kajal Bagwandeen , Emmanuel Adebayor , Wema Sepetu , Minnie Dlamini , Sizwe Dhlomo , Dorcas Shola Fapson , DJ C'ndo, Efya and Riaad Moosa published.

BET International aired the program on June 12th. An international broadcast took place in the summer.
