The 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards were presented on December 11, 2010 at the Eko Expo Hall, Lagos , Nigeria . The American rapper Eve was the moderator .

The winners of the evening were 2Face Idibia and Fally Ipupa , who each won two awards.

Best International was introduced as a new category for the first time . This is the only category given to non-Africans. The winners were determined by online voting .

Anti-apartheid heroine Miriam Makeba was posthumously honored as MAMA Legend . Makeba died in November 2008 at the age of 76. The artist, who was also known as "Mama Africa", was long considered a banned artist in her home country South Africa after appearing in an anti-apartheid film.

The event then paused and didn't come back until 2014.
