Obergläsersdorf Castle

Obergläsersdorf Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Szklarach Górnych ) is a castle in Szklary Górne (German Obergläsersdorf ) in the rural municipality of Lubin ( Lüben ), in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

A Renaissance residence existed in the place under the von Glaubitz family . Johann Heinrich d'Hautois had a baroque palace built from 1715 , possibly based on plans by the master builder Johann Blasius Peintner, to whom Briese Castle is also attributed. From 1833 Christian Gottlieb Raabe was the owner of Gut Obergläsersdorf and Gut Boeckey, which were passed on to grandson Oskar Raabe via his son in 1835. The latter, trained at the Tharandt Forest Academy , founded a brewery and expanded its forestry use.

The castle was given its present form under the Count Ballestrem with the extension of the side wings in the neo-baroque style. The surrounding moat was filled in. The garden at the castle was preserved as a lawn parterre with topiary and with baroque sculptures of the hll. Florian and Michael adorned.

As a result of the Second World War, Ober Gläsersdorf and most of Silesia fell to Poland in 1945. Afterwards, apartments were set up in the castle for workers of the state- owned PGR . Inside, only the baroque staircase remained. Today there is a school in the castle.

Building

The castle is designed as a “Palais entre court et jardin” ( between courtyard and garden ). The courtyard and garden façades are divided by three-axis central projections. On the garden side there is a balcony resting on pairs of columns. Above the balcony is the coat of arms of Count d'Hautois and his wife from the Frankenberg family . On the side facing away from the courtyard there is a regular garden with a fountain basin in the central axis of the castle. A now ruinous garden pavilion formed the western end of this complex. A landscape park was created south of the castle in the 19th century.
