Ruins of Briese Castle

The Castle breeze ( Polish Pałac w Brzezince ) is located in Brzezinka in oleśnica county ( Kreis Oels ) in the Province of Lower Silesia in Poland. The castle was one of the most important in terms of art history in Silesia .

history

In 1648, Moritz Freiherr von Kottulinsky acquired the Briese rule and had an early baroque palace built on the site of a previous residence. At its inauguration, Duke Sylvius I Nimrod von Württemberg-Oels , who was present as a guest, died .

In 1718 the estate became part of a majorate from Carl Christian Graf von Kospoth , who in 1725 commissioned the construction of a new palace based on the model of a palace "entre court et jardin" ( between courtyard and garden ). Johann Blasius Peintner or Christoph Hackner are presumed to be architects . The sculptors Johann Albrecht Siegwitz and Johann Adam Karinger , the painter Johann Frans de Backer and the plasterers Taroni and Brentani worked on the rich interior . The castle had an important collection of old Dutch paintings . Under Anna Sophie Countess of Erbach-Fürstenau and Balthasar Friedrich von Promnitz , the building was completed in 1740 and a Protestant church was built on the other side of the palace gardens.

After the transition to Poland in 1945, the castle was unused, but was preserved by security measures. After privatization, the restoration began, but soon stopped. The interior of the palace was looted, with all the wooden beam ceilings being broken off, stucco work being smashed and marble floors being torn out. Sculptures and vases found in the park in 1950 were moved to the Wilanów Palace Park in Warsaw .

Building

The two-story castle is built on a symmetrical floor plan and has five-axis side wings. The central risalit is triaxial; on the street side, the facade is preceded by side risalits with segmented arch tympana . The entrance portal bearing the coat of arms of von Maltzan and of Erbach and has a superior Altan . The baroque garden had a six-row avenue that led to the castle. To the south of the palace there was a garden with a broderie parterre , arcades and bosket , to the south there were two orangery buildings.
