The Oberhöflein Castle , a former moated castle is a four-wing building with two tall towers in Oberhöflein (municipality Weitersfeld) in the district of Horn in Lower Austria . It is a listed building and is in a very poor condition (2016).
history
Oberhöflein Castle was first mentioned in the 13th century. In 1578 it was owned by Andreas Kielman von Kielmannsegg. In 1658 the castle was bought by Ernst Ferdinand Freiherr von Breuner. Conversions were carried out in the 16th century and in 1724 by Matthias Freiherr von Suttner. Since then it has been owned by the Barons von Suttner . In 1945, among other things, the hall was damaged by fire.
Building description
Outside
The castle is still surrounded by a moat, over which a stone bridge leads to the gate. The arched portal in the gate tower is decorated with a sundial. At the north-west corner there is a second, square tower. There are Renaissance arcades on three sides of the courtyard. The farm building and the Gasthaus zum Schwarzen Adler are located next to the castle.
Inside
A south-east room shows illusionistic wall paintings by Johann Bergl and Martin von Molitor around 1770. Schweickhardt mentions the existence of an earlier secret passage to the inn.

Neighboring castles and palaces are the Neudegg ruins , Therasburg Castle and Fronsburg Castle .
