history

Roith is mentioned for the first time in 1110 as ad Husrugkum loco qui dicitur Rute . Roith has been called a fortress since 1380. This was owned by the sovereign and was given as a fief to Jörg the follower. Roith came across Jörger by way of inheritance . On April 16, 1455 Bernhard Jörger was enfeoffed by King Ladislaus mir Roith. In 1484, Christoph Jörger († 1505) is named as the sovereign caretaker. This exchanged Roith for Kammer am Attersee . The Jörger was followed by Joachim Sinzendorf , then Bartholomäus von Dietrichstein . In 1651 David Freiherr von Weißenwolff, who also owned Schloss Riedau and Schloss Innersee , acquired the property. His daughter Maria married Prince Wilhelm von Trautson in 1722 and received Roith as a marriage property. From 1750-1880 Roith belonged to the princes Auersperg . 1890 to Count Fürstenberg . Since 1960 Roith has been owned by Klemenz Graf von Walderdorff .

On the engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1674, Roith Castle is a complex consisting of three building complexes within a large pond. The actual castle was protected by a wall that was reinforced with four towers. Bridges, which were partially protected by gate structures, lead to the castle and the farm buildings in the pond. Despite this fortified complex, Roith Castle was burned down by Bavarian soldiers in 1620, but it was obviously rebuilt.

Roith Castle today

At the beginning of the 20th century, Roith was largely demolished due to its dilapidation and the extensive pond area was filled in. The Meierhof belonging to the castle , the entrance to the former courthouse and the former hunter's house have been preserved. Remains of the moats and the bridges over them are also still there. At the site of the castle there is still an imposing building, which is reminiscent of a farm and is used by a doctor. The retaining walls typical of a moated castle can still be seen on the farm wing or the outer walls of the building .
