The Sandfort Castle , often also called the Sandfort House, is a moated castle in Olfen , district of Vinnum in the Münsterland .

The castle was probably built around 1450. The two round towers of the building date from this time. The upper castle was structurally changed several times and dates from the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century. The mighty tower has been renovated, its helmet dates from the Baroque period .

The two farm buildings to the left and right of the gate were built in 1851 and 1857 in the classicist style.

Initially, the property was owned by a von Sandfort family . Afterwards it was owned by the Lords of Mechelen from 1300 to around 1550 , followed by the von Fridag-Löringhoff family, the von Bodelschwingh family in 1719 , the Barons von Bodelschwingh- Plettenberg in 1861 and finally the Counts of Wedel in 1869 . Today the facility is owned by the Graf vom Hagen family - Baron von Plettenberg .

As the castle is still inhabited, it can only be viewed from the outside.
