Tworkau Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tworkau Castle ( Polish Pałac w Tworkowie ) is the ruins of a castle in Tworków (German Tworkau ) in the municipality of Krzyżanowice ( Kreuzendorf ) in the powiat Raciborski ( Ratibor district ) in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland. Historically it belonged to the Premyslid Duchy of Opava until 1318 and then to the Duchy of Ratibor .

A first castle at today's location was probably built under the Lords of Krawarn, who were verifiable owners from 1305 until the 15th century. A renaissance castle was built on the site of the castle in 1567–85 . In 1685 an east wing was added to the palace. The castle has been in ruins since the Second World War .
