The Schmitz-Werke GmbH + Co. KG is an international, medium-sized company of the textile industry . The main fields of business are the manufacture of awnings , awning fabrics, decorative fabrics, curtains and technical textiles. The family company is run by the fourth generation and employs around 730 people (2014). The company premises of the production facility and administration in Emsdetten cover approx. 120,000 m², of which around 80,000 m² are built on. The annual turnover is around 100 million euros (2014).
The production takes place exclusively in Germany. Numerous sales subsidiaries are located in France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Australia. Partnerships and holdings in sales companies exist in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Singapore, Slovenia, Hungary, the USA and Cyprus.
Among other things, the company is a member of the Association of the Northwest German Textile and Clothing Industry , the Friends' Association of the Hermann Emanuel Vocational College of the Steinfurt District and the Society for the Promotion of the Westphalian Wilhelms University .
Products
In 1972 Schmitz-Werke started the production of prefabricated awnings for windows, terraces and winter gardens under the brand name markilux in its own metal construction department and sewing shop. The brand is represented worldwide with numerous Schmitz-Werke subsidiaries and partnerships. It is the only awning brand in Germany where the awning fabrics are still woven in the same house. The product range includes folding arm awnings for balconies and patios, conservatory awnings, window shades, side awnings, indoor sun protection systems, outdoor furniture and cushions.
Another part of production is the manufacture of object decoration fabrics under the drapilux brand. These textiles are given, for example, air-cleaning, noise- insulating or germ-inhibiting properties through special finishing . Most of the fabrics are flame retardant.
The Schmitz-Werke also produce technical textiles and fabrics for outdoor use and the like. a. for the awnings, boats and upholstery fabric sector under the name swela. The company manufactures high-tech fabrics in-house with the equipment and finishes developed for this purpose .
