The jewelery lobster ( Panulirus ornatus ) is a species from the lobster family .

The maximum body length of this lobster species is 50 centimeters. It is one of the largest representatives of the genus Panulirus . However, most representatives of this species rarely grow taller than 30 to 35 centimeters. Like all lobsters, it is nocturnal and likes to hide in crevices during the day. It feeds on echinoderms , carrion , worms and clams . It lives in the coastal water at a depth of one to eight meters. Occasionally, however, it can also be found at a depth of 50 meters.

The jewelery lobster is native to the western Pacific and occurs from East Africa to Japan , Solomon Islands , Australia and Papua New Guinea , New Caledonia and Fiji . However, the spiny lobster is also one of the species that has penetrated into the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal due to Lesseps migration . That is why it can also be found on the coast of Israel today.

The lobster species is caught throughout the range and marketed at the local fish markets.
