Schneppenkauten
Schneppenkauten was one of seven hut settlements in Weidenau and later part of this community in the northern Siegen urban area in the Siegen district .
The hut at Schneppenkauten was mentioned in 1444 , and there was also a medieval hammer mill, which was converted into a puddling mill in 1849 and operated as a flange factory Gebr. Kiel from 1936 . Between 1711 and 1743 there was a Protestant and a Catholic parish, both in Siegen. On December 1, 1885 Schneppenkauten had 847 inhabitants. In 1888, the “Highest Ordinance” of the German Emperor Wilhelm II stipulated “that the districts of Haardt , Fickenhütten , Schneppenkauten, Münkershütten , Müßnershütten , Meinhardt and Weidenau, which make up the community of Weidenau in the Siegen district , are no longer used henceforth uniformly use the name 'Weidenau' ” . Until then, Schneppenkauten belonged to the Weidenau office .
The Schneppenkauten mine, first mentioned on July 13, 1831, was located in the area of the village and later belonged to the important Neue Haardt mine .
