The Schoeller Textil company was a cloth factory in the formerly independent village of Köttenich in the Huchem-Stammeln district of the Niederzier municipality in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

Born in Silesia, Leopold Schoeller jr. (1862–1907) founded the factory in 1889 as Leopold Schoeller jr. & Cie. He had learned in the work of his father (Philipp Eberhard) Leopold Schoeller (1830-1896), the Schoeller'sche worsted yarn spinning mill in Breslau and the carpet factory Anker-Carpeting of his grandfather Leopold Schoeller in Düren , which since 1867 under the direction of his uncle Philipp Nikolaus Schoeller ( 1833–1904) stood. He had planned to set up a spinning mill that would supply the yarns for the carpet factory. He acquired the Unterköttenicher mill as a factory site and at the same time built factory apartments for the workers.

Schoeller bought the necessary machines for the carpet yarn spinning mill in England. They were powered by an 800 hp steam engine. One year after the company was founded, Schoeller set up a company health insurance fund . In 1900 the factory was expanded to include a cotton fine spinning mill and a twisting mill . In 1905 the fine spinning mill burned down completely.

After the death of Leopold Schoeller jr. in 1907 the company was converted into a GmbH , as the sons Leopold and Louis were not old enough. In 1911 the company was converted into a special carpet yarn spinning mill , a so-called bump spinning mill . After the First World War , Leopold Schoeller jr. GmbH & Cie. changed into a limited partnership (KG) and expanded again in 1921. A year earlier, Schoeller Textil had almost 1,000 employees. In 1928 the steam turbines were replaced by electric motors and the previous self-actuators by ring spinning machines.

Before the Second World War , the company was modernized considerably. With around 65,000 spindles, it is now one of the leading spinning mills in Germany.

During the Second World War , the employees and the company were evacuated to Senden (Bavaria) . After the end of the war, production in Köttenich was resumed and paper yarn was first made . The first cotton yarn production only started again in 1947. In 1960 the grandson of the company founder, Gerd Schoeller, joined the company, which in 1972 became Leopold Schoeller jr. GmbH & Cie. KG was renamed. With another Leopold Schoeller (* 1951), the fourth generation joined the company in 1983.

Although Schoeller Textil was one of the leading and top-selling spinning mills in Germany, textile production at the Huchem-Stammeln location was completely discontinued shortly after 2000. It was relocated to Litvínov in the Czech Republic and ultimately sold to the Indian Spentex Group.

From 2003 stammering Huchem came together at the site with the GmbH STS transport service Schmalkalden the Schoeller Industrial Logistics GmbH & Co. KG .
