Systematics

One can distinguish between two subspecies:

  • Lavandula stoechas subsp. luisieri (Rozeira) Rozeira : It occurs in Portugal and in western Spain.
  • Lavandula stoechas subsp. stoechas : It occurs in the Mediterranean area from Morocco and Portugal to Cyprus, Turkey and Palestine.

Others

The Schopf lavender also produces essential oils, but these are not used economically. It is one of those species that are considered frost-sensitive, i.e. not hardy , and therefore only survive the winter common in Central Europe outdoors if they are in a suitable location, have been properly prepared and are adequately protected.

A medieval Latin name for the plant was sticados arabicum .
