history

The school history in Büdingen goes back to the 17th century. In 1822 the Bürgererschule (today's school on Dohlberg) was separated from the grammar school (today's Wolfgang Ernst grammar school ). For the older school history see there. A new building, the city school, is being built for the community school. The new school building is called the “Mollerschule” after the architect Moller. The move to a new school building takes place again in 1910/11. The school is now an elementary school , but is still called the “city school”. The new building is located at Brunostraße 8. The building is now used for the primary school and is a listed building .

From 1949 a class with expanded teaching objectives, a so-called advanced or A-class, was set up, with the possibility of acquiring the secondary school certificate after 10 school years . In 1950 the school was renamed “Volks- und Realschule” and the secondary school branch moved into an extension in the street Zum Stadtgraben (this was used by the city administration until 2002).

On February 1, 1967, the school was divided into the secondary and secondary schools in Büdingen and the primary school in Büdingen. In what was then known as the “Central School Büdingen”, lessons took place for the first time on September 1, 1967, with 490 secondary and 343 secondary school students from the Büdingen district . After the territorial reform in Hesse operated by the SPD and FDP , the Büdingen district became part of the Wetterau district . Accordingly, in 1972 the name of the school changed to "Haupt- und Realschule des Wetteraukreises in Büdingen". In the years 1986 to 1988 the school developed into the location of the comprehensive support level and was given the addition of "with support level". After the state elections in Hesse in 1987 , the state government, now led by the CDU , repealed the funding level law in 1987 , so that the district was again given the freedom to determine the type of school itself. By decision of the district, the school has now become a pure secondary school again. In the period from 1990 to 1991, a voluntary funding stage was temporarily set up, which was dissolved in 2000.

On August 3, 2000, the school was finally named "Schule am Dohlberg, secondary and secondary school of the Wetterau district in Büdingen".

Since the school year 2018/19, the school has been in full-day profile II and offers classes or other afternoon offers every day.

particularities

  • Since 1985, the students of the compulsory French course 9 of the Realschule have had the opportunity to take part in a student exchange to Loudéac . The exchanges are organized and carried out together with the neighboring Wolfgang-Ernst-Gymnasium .
  • Since 2001 there has been a regular cross-school ski holiday in Austria.
  • Since 2015, the school has introduced a so-called learning time in grades 5 to 7, in which pupils do their homework in the mornings in a class group.

building

The school building was built in 1967 together with the now closed indoor swimming pool on the Dohlberg, which had hardly been built up until then, on the outskirts of the Büdingen city center. Various remodeling and renovation measures have been carried out to date. In 2006, a new school library was inaugurated with financial help from the Friends' Association. In 2007, a new multi-purpose hall for physical education and other events was built on part of the schoolyard. In 2009 the inauguration of an enlarged cafeteria for the all-day offer followed. The building was last extensively renovated and modernized between 2010 and 2013.
