School with pedagogical lunchtime care is a type of school in Hesse that offers its students offers for lunchtime and afternoons in which they work in groups on a topic. The offers extend to the period of the 7th to 10th school period . This form is a preliminary stage to the open all-day school .

The concept of educational lunchtime care includes activities in which students work effectively on topics with other students. The students can choose between different offers that are offered by the school. This is to prevent the children and adolescents from being exposed to bad influence ( drugs , alcohol ) after their normal school days and becoming criminals or being physically injured by older students and adults. The offer is formed by teachers, parents and older students making suggestions for working groups and remedial courses and these are then offered (after discussion and an acceptance process). Usually the schools receive a budget for the supervision, from which the materials and tutors are paid.
In the 2007/08 school year there were 365 schools in Hessen with pedagogical lunchtime care.

Homework assistance
The homework support is attended by students who have increasing problems with their homework or who have no legal guardian at home. In case of problems, these students can contact other students or the supervisor (usually senior students).
