School Sisters of the Holy Family

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The School Sisters of the Holy Family ( ital. : Congregation of Sisters of Collegine della Sacra Famiglia , religious symbol : CSF ) is an institute of consecrated life and the Congregation of the Third Order . They were founded in 1717 and, in their function as school sisters, take on the training of young girls.

history

On June 17, 1717, the cardinal priest of San Giovanni a Porta Latina , Pier Marcellino Corradini, built a home in his hometown of Sezze for the poorest girls, who were named “pupils of the Holy Family” (Italian: Convittrici della Sacra Famiglia). To lead, he founded a congregation of nuns who were supposed to live according to the rules of St. Augustine of Hippo and who should take care of the girls' education. On July 26, 1717, the first young nuns received their religious clothes , but the nuns were not supposed to live in a monastery , but rather get in touch with the poorest on the street to help them. This was a revolutionary idea for the time, as previously women only worked in closed monasteries. In our modern times they would perhaps be called the first “ street workers ”.

Focus on Sicily

The communities of the religious lived and worked in a so-called "Collegio di Maria", especially in Sicily the poverty was very high. The first "Collegio di Maria" in Sicily was founded on September 16, 1721 in Palermo by Don Carlo Vanni. On February 17, 1729, the Constitution of the Order was approved by Cardinal Corradini , and the Archbishop of Palermo , Cardinal Luigi Lavitrano , gave the final episcopal approval for the joint religious community . On May 10, 1934, the Order of Women received the Decretum laudis and on July 27, 1942, Pope Pius XII. the final license to practice medicine .
