history
development
After Schwerin was founded in 1160, a new castle and a small network of medieval streets were built, which roughly followed the current course of the streets. When today's Mecklenburgstrasse developed to Schloßstrasse at the end of the 19th century , this street also gained in importance.
As part of urban development funding , the area of the old town was redeveloped ; In the mid to late 1990s, the street was redeveloped as a pedestrian zone and many houses were redeveloped.
In terms of traffic, the street on Marienplatz is served by tram lines 1, 2 and 4 as well as bus lines 5, 7, 10, 12, 14 and 19 from Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH (NVS).
