etymology

The origin of the place was presumably a cattle yard, Middle High German "sweige", which helped the place first to the name "Swin-" husen, then to "Swer-" and "Swal-" husen and later to "Schwach-" houses.

history

The earliest history of the place is closely connected with the favorable, natural condition as a settlement area. Located in the central Aller glacial valley, the Mesolithic and Bronze Age provided the best conditions for the first camp sites in the area. This is documented, among other things, by finds from Offensen and from Langlinger wood. Schwachhausen was first mentioned in detail in 1330, when it was part of the fiefdom of the knight Baldwin von Dalem . After the Thirty Years War, the Celle court marshal Wilhelm von Hodenberg built the seat of the nobles in Schwachhausen. This passed by inheritance to Baron Friedrich Schenk von Winterstedt . On March 5, 1838, Carl Ludwig Friedrich, the last gift from Winterstedt, died. The estate was then worked for a while by weak-house farmers. The building in the northeastern part of the village was demolished. A side wing was later rebuilt in Wienhausen. The manor belonging to the former estate, which adorned the center of Schwachhausen, was demolished in 2011.
