Schwand is a district of Stadtsteinach in Upper Franconia . The village has about 150 inhabitants and was first mentioned in a document in 1145, at that time the noblemen of Callenberg (near Coburg) sold their property in "Suuanda" to the Michelsberg monastery in Bamberg. Earlier settlements are likely to have existed as early as the Slav period (6th-9th centuries). In 1397 a Hans Haueisen zu Schwand was mentioned several times. Schwand is about five kilometers north of Stadtsteinach in the district of Kulmbach .
