The Black Lake is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District south of Mirow in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The Schwarzer See is part of the chain of lakes south of Mirow consisting of Zotzensee , Vilzsee , Zethner See and Schwarzer See.

It is around 2.6 kilometers long and between 200 and 950 meters wide. The lake merges into the Zethner See in the south.

The lake has an undivided, wooded east bank (the Holm peninsula ) and a more indented, mostly unwooded west bank with several bays. The ridges above the east bank almost reach the one hundred meter mark. On the west bank is also the place Schwarz with a smaller offshore island.

The lake has a connection to the Müritz-Havel waterway via the Vilzsee and a narrow connection to the Zotzensee via the Mückenkanal .

During the GDR era, there was a children's holiday camp at the lake as a tent city.

Trivia

Since the lake is named after the place Schwarz, it is called "the Black Lake" and not "the Black Lake".
