The black-haired root root or silver fir root root ( Oudemansiella melanotricha , syn. Xerula melanotricha ) is a rare species of fungus from the family of bark sponge relatives (Physalacriaceae).

Macroscopic features

The 3–7 cm wide, dark brown hat is dry, velvety to hairy and has particularly protruding bristles on the edge. The stem is cinnamon brown, bristly-hairy and stains when touched.

Microscopic features

The spores have a rounded shape and measure 8-10.5 × 7.5-9.5 µm.

Species delimitation

It can be confused with the brown-haired root root ( Xerula pudens ).

Ecology and hazard

The species is parasitically connected to the roots of the silver fir and occurs on montane limestone soils . It's very rare.
