The pilgrimage church of Mariahilf and St. Johann Nepomuk on the Schwarzlack is a catholic pilgrimage church in the late Baroque style in the municipality of Brannenburg in Upper Bavaria.

The church is a popular destination because of its location on the slope of the Sulzberg above the Inn Valley . Next to the church there is also a listed inn.

history

Part of the numerous votive tablets in the church

Georg Tanner founded a hermitage on the site of today's church in 1659 . An exhibited representation of Mariahilf, a copy of the Innsbruck image of Mariahilf by Lucas Cranach the Elder , soon attracted pilgrims. Because of this, a wooden chapel was built in 1687, which gave way to a stone church in 1716. In 1750, at the behest of Count Johann Maximilian IV. Emanuel von Preysing, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a larger pilgrimage church, which met the increased demands and was completed in 1763. The nephew of the late founder added a number of exhibits to the church, including the altar.

Architecture and equipment

The plans for the construction come from Abraham Millauer , the execution was carried out by his son Philipp . The building was completed by Johann Achleitner . The brothers Johann Baptist and Ignaz Anton Gunetzrhainer were also involved in the construction .

The organ in the pilgrimage church Schwarzlack is a single-manual instrument.

The exterior simplicity of the building contrasts with the richly furnished interior, which, however, due to the white and gold color scheme, still looks rather reserved, even courtly. The altar with the portrait of Mariahilf by Joseph Götsch from 1767, which also contains a figurative representation of the second patron saint, Johann Nepomuk , catches the eye . The frescoes by the artist Sebastian Rechenhauer , who came from a village near the church and were added in 1811 , are also worth seeing.
