Swedish Mission Church
The Swedish Mission Church (Swedish: Svenska Missionskyrkan ) was a Reformed Church in Sweden , which arose in 1878 as a result of a dispute within the Swedish Lutheran state church . Until its merger with two other churches in 2011, it was the second largest Christian denomination in the country with a membership of around 65,000 (approx. 0.7 percent of Sweden's total population).
It consisted of 686 congregations in seven districts as well as the Swedish Salvation Army, which as a non-territorial district also belonged to the mission church. The annual church conference was the highest legislative organ in the church. The church and mission boards governed the church in accordance with the church conference.
The missionary activity of the Church in Turkestan was historically significant .
The Swedish Mission Church was a member of the World Fellowship of Reformed Churches and the International Federation of Free Evangelical Congregations (IFFEC). In the Community of Evangelical Churches in Europe she worked as a "participating church".
On June 8, 2008, the Mission Church, together with the Union of Swedish Baptists and the Methodist Church, passed a “declaration of intent” to “form a new common church” by 2012. After detailed negotiations, the formation of the new church was decided on June 4, 2011 at a conference. It was initially given the provisional name Gemensam Framtid ("Common Future") and was renamed Equmeniakyrkan in 2013 after an intense debate .
