Schweich Lectures on Biblical Archeology
The Schweich Lectures on Biblical Archeology (German Schweich lectures on Biblical Archeology ) are a series of lectures on topics related to Biblical Archeology , which is regularly organized by the British Academy in London .
In 1907, Constance Schweich donated 100,000 pounds sterling to the British Academy in memory of her father Leopold Schweich “devoted to the furtherance of research in the archeology, art, history, languages and literature of Ancient Civilization, with reference to Biblical Study” (“for the support research in archeology, art, history, languages and literature of ancient civilizations related to Biblical Studies ”). From this foundation u. a. sponsored this lecture series. This was the first major foundation to the British Academy, which had only been established in 1901 and initially received no public grants. The first Schweich Lecture took place in 1908. The presentations are published by Oxford University Press .
