Pig box

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pig kills were local insurance companies in the south of what is now the state of Lower Saxony . They were founded from 1874.

Almost every family fattened one or two pigs to meet their meat, sausage and fat needs. In the event of death, emergency slaughter or forced killing of an animal under epidemic law , the material damage was reimbursed from the pig's coffers. This type of precaution was traditionally represented in many villages and still exists in some today, although its basics have long since been lost.
