Freethinkers Association of Switzerland
The Freethinkers Association of Switzerland ( FVS ), also Freigeistige Association of Switzerland called, is a Swiss association of freethinkers .
history
The German-Swiss Freethinker Association was constituted in 1908, merged with freethinker groups from western Switzerland and Ticino , and maintained close relationships with German freethinkers (see also German Freethinkers Association ). At first, the club grew rapidly; Due to the war, growth stagnated during the First World War ; A renewed upswing followed in the interwar period ; the Great Depression and the Second World War brought setbacks again.
In 1933, the National Councilor Hans Müller launched an advance against the free thinkers as a movement that actively combats the Christian faith and thus endangers religious peace . The motion submitted as a motion was transferred as a postulate by the National Council on June 22, 1933 with 70 against 47 votes and subsequently rejected by the Federal Council . Important Swiss freethinkers were the pedagogue Ernst Brauchlin , the businessman Otto Kunz and the writer Jakob Stebler ; Konrad Farner was in contact with the association. In 2011, the Swiss Freethinkers Association had around 1,800 members.
Freethinker Award
On 9 October 2015, the Swiss Freethinkers first awarded the 10,000 francs freethinkers price . It went to Ensaf Haidar , Raif Badawi and Waleed Abulkhair for their courageous commitment to humanistic and secular values in Saudi Arabia. In future, the Freethinker Prize will be awarded every two years and will be financed through an inheritance.
