Life

Konrad Farner came from an old Zurich family and was the son of a geometer . He attended primary school and high school in Lucerne and studied art history and history in Frankfurt am Main , Munich and Cologne from 1922 to 1924 . After working as an antiquarian and art expert for the first time, he studied political science , history, literature and theology in Basel from 1936 to 1941 with Karl Barth and Edgar Salin . After these years of education, Konrad Farner became a publishing editor , freelance writer , art historian, political essayist, and theorist. He lived in Frenkendorf until 1950 , moved and lived in Thalwil from then until his death . Konrad Farner had already joined the Swiss Communist Party in 1923 . He campaigned for communism and was massively threatened because of his views on the Cold War after the 1956 Hungarian uprising . From then on, Konrad Farner was a persona non grata , and his family could no longer live in peace either. It was only rebellious students of the 1968 movement who discovered Farner as a kindred spirit and tried to install him as an academic teacher against the resistance of the established professors. Such an attempt failed in Basel in 1968, but in 1972 he was given an art-sociological teaching position in Zurich . In 1974 Konrad Farner died as a result of an unsuccessful operation .
