Swiss Working Group for Archeology in the Middle Ages and Modern Times

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Working Group for Archeology of the Middle Ages and Modern Times (SAM) was founded in 1974 and became an association in 1998. It brings together experts in archeology or medieval archeology , art studies and history who deal with the material legacies of the Middle Ages and modern times from the area of today's Switzerland and adjacent areas. The SAM promotes the exchange of information between public and private institutions, friendly associations ( DGAMN , ÖGM, SBV , Archeology Switzerland ) and the researchers as well as with related sciences ( archeozoology , archaeobotany etc.). She is the contact person for politicians and authorities. The annual meeting with lectures on current excavations and research usually takes place on the last weekend in October.

A prerequisite for membership is a scientific activity in the context of archaeological research in the Middle Ages and Modern Times in Switzerland or the neighboring region.
